On August 31, 2026, the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board posted a note on the 2024 code adoption. The codes took effect September 14, 2026. This is a building-code change. It is not a new way to price a pier.

What changes

The Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission lists a permanent rule adopting the 2024 edition of the International Building Code, effective September 14, 2026. The rule PDF says the commission adopts the 2024 IBC, first printing (August 2023), as amended, as the statewide minimum code for commercial building construction.

The Construction Industries Board note says the commission also adopted the 2024 International Residential Code, with amendments, on the same date. That is the book a house permit is more likely to follow.

The board also set a 90-day exam transition, from September 14, 2026 through December 14, 2026, for many trade tests. After December 14, those tests use the new codes only. Plumbing and gas tests shift on October 8, 2026, with a transition through January 8, 2027.

Who it affects

This is for people who hire foundation or other building work in Oklahoma that needs a local permit. The Construction Industries Board still says general contractors are not required to hold a statewide general-contractor license. Cities still issue the permit.

It does not change what a homeowners policy pays for a crack. Does homeowners insurance cover foundation repair? is still the insurance page.

What you still owe or still need to do

A new code edition still does not replace a city permit. The soil under the house does not change because the book on the desk changed. What to do when the house is cracking or settling is the same order.

What to do now

If you are hiring in Oklahoma, ask which code edition the permit will use, and ask who will stamp the plan if the soil is expansive. How to choose a foundation contractor is the rest of that checklist.

The Tulsa city page now notes the September 14, 2026 effective date next to the city permit steps.
